The Chaliyar River – Before / Now / After

With the astonishing length of 169 Km, Chaliyar is the 4th longest river in Kerala. The Chaliyar was extensively used as a waterway for carrying timber from the forest areas in and around Nilambur to the various mills in Kallai of Calicut city, mostly during the late 19th century and early 20th century. Even in the drought season, Chaliyar doesn't get dried up unlike some of the other rivers. Most of the rivers in Kerela dry up in march and april. A few years ago ecological damage was caused by a pulp factory at Mavoor that released effluents into the Chaliyar river and affected the marine life.

In the region between Elamaram and Pallikkadavu, fish mortality occurred on a large scale in the Chaliyar river near Calicut from 7-3-1979 to 16-3-1979. Large quantities of waste water from the Gwalior Rayons Factory located at Mavoor was seen discharged into the river through the emergency outlet at Elamaram, on the evening of 6-3-1979 as per the information gathered from the inhabitants on the banks of the river. The possibility of occurrence of some metallic poison in the water
couldn't be ruled out as the fishes disappeared from the heavily polluted areas. 

      Government of Kerala has now decided to close down the Pulp and Fibre divisions of the Factory till pollution abatement measures are completed.This factory has since closed down.

CHALIYAR AND FEROKE BRIDGE

The 100+ year old Feroke Railway Bridge has now been replaced by a brand new bridge as part of track doubling. The old Feroke Road Bridge can also be seen next to it.This new bridge was commissioned for service 2002. The granite pillars of the old bridge which was pulled down can be seen on the right. It (Old Bridge) was a wonderful piece of engineering marvel using available resources and materials.

In the banks of Chaliyar, Kallikkad Forests spreads over an area of around 10 acres and is very suitable for students and research scholars. Every year as a part of Onam celebrations a boat race is conducted here.

Nilambur is another beautiful town on the banks of Chaliyar river. It is famous for its teak plantation which boasts of being the oldest one in the entire world. This teak plantation, 'Conollys Plot' spreads over an area of 2.31 hectares and is beside the Chaliyar river. The main attraction here is the oldest teak. 

Kannimari Ferries are available to take you round a trip on the Chaliyar River. Very close by is the world's first teak museum where you can have a comprehensible knowledge of everything related to teak. The museum is housed in a two storied building. Very close to the Nilambur town (around 18 km) is Nedumkayam - the rich rain forest. Prior permission is required to visit this forest, but once inside you can view the elephants and deers roaming around freely in the forest from a cottage that was built during the British era. There is also an elephant training centre here. Half an hour jeep ride from Nedumkayam will bring you to Mancherri, the settlement of Chola Naikas, a primitive tribe. 

The town itself is famous for the Kovilakoms, or the residence of the rajas. The kovilakams have beautiful frescoes and art work in wood to attract our. Chaliyar Hospital, Nilambur is a 150-bed multi speciality hospital with modern amenities located at Nilambur Town in an area with village atmosphere and civic facilities with temperate climate. 

The history of vazhakkad is being related to the Chaliyar River. This place was under the governance of Samothirians before coming in the hands of the British. 

As a result of this Nilambur Kovilakam, Kizhakke Kovilakam, Padinjare Kovilakam etc became the landlords.As a part of the freedom fight many eminent leaders like K. Kelappan, Muhammad Abdul Rahim, Moidu Moulavi, A.V. Kuttymalu Amma, K.M. Seethi Sahib, and Pokar Sahib etc stepped in vazhakkad. Later the district board member Azhakath Kodoli Kunjunni Nair also came. He became the president for the construction of roads, hospitals, wells, Harijan schools and other institutions.The factory in Mavoor named Gwalior Rayon’s factory started in 1960s has played a crucial role in changing the life style of the people here.Apart from all these certain negative impacts took place due to the factory outlets. The air and water pollution that happened during that period is still a bad dream in minds of people here.

Baar Baar Dekho - But Only Katrina, not the movie!

Nitya Mehra directed Baar Baar Dekho is a love story of a couple committed to each other since childhood. Everything is going well until Katrina decides to get married to Sidharth one day. Under pressure he agrees but they end up fighting a day earlier than their marriage and the girl leaves the guy, forever. Here a twist starts where Sidharth wakes up every day in a new year of his life? So from childhood to late 50's he can see everything about his life. Here the whole plot is messed up by the 1st time lady director. Just like the main lead even the audience is clueless about the story line?

Katrina looks stunning but the age difference of 8 years is visible between her and Sidharth. This similar mistake was earlier done in A Flying Jatt? Ram Kapoor as Kat's father is more irritating than convincing. Both Kat n Sid have no emotions on their face throughout the movie. Age gaps have been justified just by the usage of make up but the performance level has not been paid attention to.

The motive of this movie is to show exotic locales for holidaying and the super toned structures of both the leading non actors! This was but expected from a Karan Johar Production but as co-producers Farhan Akhtar n Sidharth Roy Kapoor have also failed miserably(just like Fitoor earlier).

 My Movie Rating is 1 star (0.5 star extra for stunning Katrina)....
My advice - "avoid it and just enjoy Katrina on You Tube"!!

Is Shahrukh Khan Responsible for Downfall of Filmfare Awards??

Filmfare always had a very special place in the hearts of audience as well as the Stars just like Oscar's! It was regarded as a prestige issue to win at least 1 Filmfare Trophy in an actor's lifetime. Who can forget the famous Sanju Baba speech after receiving his first Best Actor award for Vaastav. There are many such instances associated with this ceremony since the famous golden days of Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor and Dev Anand!

 Dharmendra specially ordered a tailor made yellow suit for himself when he was confident of winning the award for Betaab as the Producer. Such was the charm and charisma of this event. Nobody from the film fraternity wanted to skip this extravaganza and always made a special effort to attend it, irrespective of the fact that whether they will win an award or not.

 Shahrukh Khan made his debut with Deewana for which he did win Sensational Debut Award (deservedly). In a year he had made brilliant PR skills to impress Big Banners like YRF and even with Sponsors of Filmfare awards. This gave birth to fixing of awards and as a result SRK was awarded best actor for Baazigar for which he was earlier nominated as a Villian but on the last minute changes were made so that Sanjay Dutt is deprived of his trophy(for Khalnayak).
This became a kind of trend and every year Shahrukh started winning non deserving awards and once when limits were crossed, Aamir Khan boycotted going to award shows(he was deprived of his deserving award for Rangeela).

    Today nobody respects Filmfare or any other award show as you already know that which ever big star is present and is seated in the front row is going to win an award for certain. Kangana Ranaut avoids all the award shows and only accepted National award from the President of India.

Today reality is in front of everybody that even for last 3 washout flops - Dilwale, Happy New Year and Fan - Shahrukh was nominated for the first two (if not won) and would get a certain nomination next year for the 3rd one?? Now the gap is so much widened between Megastars (Salman,Aamir) and ordinary star SRK that how much ever he lobbies, maximum he can win a nomination but can't win an award now.
Filmfare lost its charm which had a history of more than 60 years just for a very ordinary actor with a brilliant business mind.

'The first real love story I watched unfold'

Love is something which is related a lot to movies. Since childhood the influence of cinema is so strong that most of the emotions are associated with it. But Reel life can never be anything what Real one can be. It was the Summer of 93 and i had just got through my 10th standard (some how). Excitement of holidays was all over my face! I straight away joined cricket coaching sessions as the game was my passion and more over the stadium was close enough to my house.
Here I met my coach 'Inderjeet' for the first time. He was a punctual and a strict person and the only time i used to see a smile on his face was when his girlfriend 'Nisha' used to bring home cooked food for him. This was a routine followed on a couple of days in a week. Nothing on my television or the cinema big screen but this was the first Real love story that i witnessed.
My coaching was 5 days a week and this was pretty new for me to understand that how those 2 days when Nisha used to come were totally different from the rest. Their comfort with each other and the love was there for everybody else to relish. From a distance i could still feel the warmth that both of them used to generate together. Watching them enjoy each and every moment of their company would make me jealous sometimes.
Once our coach got sick and the classes were taken by somebody else for a week and that was the time when I started missing those 2 days when the love birds were around. I used to think how would it be exactly to fall in love. The week passed and the coach was fit and back to stadium, so was his girlfriend! I knew both of them were missing their 'Tajmahal', the stadium of course!
Summer holidays got over soon and so the tryst with the stadium was over too. The lovers were still together but my movie was over. Witnessing a Real love story was an amazing experience for me. Movies will be made on various lovers but 'Inderjeet and Nisha' are going to stay in my conscience forever. I don't know what eventually was the ending of their love story but even after 2 decades, I remember them.

Rajesh Khanna - The Original Super Star still makes Naseeruddin Shah jealous of his Legacy

The word Super Star was born with the emergence of Rajesh Khanna in +BOLLYWOOD ! Success was at his feet straight away. In 1970's there was a famous saying " OOPAR AAKA NEECHE KAKA "!

Women all over the country were crazy for him (including top actresses of bollywood)! This kind of female craze has been seen by very few all over the world. If to count on fingers then other than Kaka, there is +Tom Cruise , +Salman Khan , +David Beckham .... This is the charisma of this legend that is continuing since half a century!

Recently +Naseeruddin Shah commented that Rajesh Khanna was a poor actor?? To which +Twinkle Khanna replied in a manner that it was no less than a tight slap on Shah's face! Being a good actor is a different thing and ruling the hearts of billions is all together different. Shah has never been even close to being a Star leave alone the concept of a Super Star for the poor guy. The league of Kaka is +Amitabh Bachchan -BigB or a Dev Anand but certainly not a supporting actor like Shah??

 In 2013 Shah behaved in a similar frustrated manner by calling +BHAGMILKHA BHAG a fake movie?? To which +Farhan Akhtar didn't even felt like replying?? This clarifies that how much frustrated Naseer is from his mediocre career.

Talking shit about a Super Star who left us 4 years back tells us the state of mind of this man. Rajesh Khanna comes once in a century who can never be replaced by anybody....

His persona was visible when millions of hearts were broken on his marriage with Dimple Kapadia!!

Whom should I Vote?? An insight into a voter's mind by amit dutta

Whom should I VOTE this time?? Should I VOTE for individual brilliance or a stable party?? Be it Mahatma Gandhi or a Narendra Modi, individual stars were always there to be worshiped by the media as well as the common voter. Media has changed a lot from the famous Newspaper days to the present Twitter one's. 2014 was a prime example where media singly gifted victory to the current BJP government by making a HERO out of  MODI! The Brand Name Modi took the whole nation with a storm and swept the whole elections in favor of Bhajpa!

Should I vote for that party that distributes Drugs, Alcohol, Money etc before the elections? When all are corrupt, this way at least i'll be able to sell my vote! If not then how should i judge a good individual to vote for? Whole Delhi and few portions of Punjab were made a big fool by the Aam Aadmi Party when on grounds of false dreams they too won by heavy margins. Here the face was Arvind Kejriwal?? 

Should i vote for a celebrity who's famous on the Social Media?? It could be either someone like Navjot Singh Siddhu who's always cracking stupid jokes on idiot box or someone like Kangana Ranaut/Priyanka Chopra who are role models for the youth(males only)!!

 Hi, i'm a Common Man of India who follows the Media blindly and instead of using my personal brain, let's them decide on my behalf!! I eat, sleep and drink News Channels and my way of thinking is exactly like them. I let them decide the fate of my Mother Land?? 

Who is suffering due to this?? Wrong choices lead to nothing Right in Life?? Today our currency is falling like  nail pins and courtesy of over population, there are no jobs for the youth?? Is this the INDIA, earlier Legends dreamt off?? Is it??

Jaago Voter Jaago!! Vote for the best only then you can rest.... It's never too late in life, inspirations are always there. Fauja Singh started running after 70 and is still at 100+?? Yuvraj Singh never played cricket till 13 and was representing India at 17(Junior World Cup, which they won)! Later he even fought with a life threatening menace like Cancer and came back to play for India again!!

 So even if I've been proved wrong several times still my quest for selecting the right candidate is not over yet. I will Fight, whole day whole night!!   

My Movie Review - "SULTAN"

Ali Abbas Zafar has written and directed +SultanMovie .... This movie is about the fight which every human is tackling within himself. Hats off to the sincerity with which this project is made. +Salman Khan is getting better and more better with age. This is beyond doubt his finest performance till date. +Anushka Sharma is equally brilliant in her performance. In short this movie is about the ups and downs of life that this couple face in their relation.

 Time has come when the so called KHAN WAR is over and like +Rajesh Khanna and +Amitabh Bachchan -BigB now +Salman Khan is having the longest stretch of +Blockbusters and with each of his movies crossing 100 crore club easily, he's even challenging record number of centuries made by the great +Sachin Tendulkar !!

 The supporting star cast has given full justice to the sincere effort of +YRF .. Be it +Amit Sadh or any other character of the movie, all are suiting their roles perfectly. Randeep Hooda impresses in a small but very effective performance.

 25 years of cinema has seen +Shah Rukh Khan finishing himself, +Aamir Khan FC getting better and +salman khan completely re-inventing himself. Each and every frame of +Sultan Movie belongs to the charisma and magnetism of +Superstar Salman Khan !!

  Today his STAR POWER is bigger than even +Rajnikanth Fan Club and +Amitabh BachchanFC !! With 104 crore already in 3 days, +Sultan Movie 2016 will easily cross 300 crore!! Another golden aspect of this movie is the MUSIC by VISHAL-SHEKHAR.. 

 My overall rating for this movie is "4 stars" .... 

Here is why Kangana owns the title 'Queen Of Lies' by amit datta

The last week proved to be a True EYE OPENER in reviewing Kangana Ranaut freshly. While Kangana proves to be a good actress, there are a lot of personality traits which CANNOT be unnoticed. Kangana being a HABITUAL LIAR is something which definitely needs a thought. The recent past just leaves a question in my mind as to How can someone Lie so much? 

It is right to question Kangana's SUSPICIOUS claims on learning that the self admittedly outspoken fearless actress LIED about something as petty as her age! The last week led gave many insights on Kangana's many lies with her Real age being revealed through her passport which states she is 30 years of age and running 31 as opposed to her having celebrated her 29th birthday this year. Why the desperate attempt to stay in the 20's Kangana? Lying for INSIGNIFICANT things sure proves to be a quality possessed by a Habitual Liar.

Her many Lies put her past baseless claims under the scanner and I have come across plenty of buried facts in the story which need to be understood first.

FACTS :

Not 29 but 31! - The actress, who reportedly celebrated her 29th birthday in March this year, has, in fact completed 30 and is going on 31. The actress is not in her 20s but in her 30s, according to her passport which shows that she was born in 1986. Not that it matters. She is in good company. She is in the industry at a time when actresses in their 30s are still considered for leading lady roles. So, why the little white lies?

Highest paid actress - She has mastered the art of floating a  rumour and repeating it so much that it becomes an accepted myth. Last year she floated a rumour of being highest paid actress in Bollywood. Reportedly 11 crores was paid to her for some film. Which film ? The answer kept being more and more vague. She is only doing Rangoon now and for which is paid in the range of 3 crores. It's well known fact that Deepika is the leading actress in Bollywood and commands the highest fees in films as well as brand endorsements. This is a variable fact. She has been using the line 'highest paid actress' in all her communication and making tall claims that she has received 11 crs. Kangana is currently doing Rangoon and has no other film lined up post it. Then who is paying her 11 crores?

Film with Raj Kumar Hirani - Kangana takes flights of imagination. And her film with Rajkumar Hirani is nothing but that... People who know Rajkumar Hirani say there is no truth... they haven't even spoken about a film or any character. He is busy with his next film.

Kareena's her best friend - Kangana is a social climber and how! First she gets herself invited to Kareena and Saif's party and then the next thing you known there is news in all papers how she is best friends with Kareena. People who know Kareena say she doesn't make friends so easily and Kangana is definitely not her friend.

Paris proposal - Once again Kangana has made claims of Hrithik proposing to her in Paris in January 2014. Such a big lie! If he proposed to her then how come till October 2014 in her emails she repeatedly kept saying when we would meet, interact and engage. Which only means they have never ever interacted on a personal level!!

Intimate picture - Kangana zoomed into a public party picture and gave it to media as proof for the 7 year relationship that she claims to have had with Hrithik. What a sham! The picture today tells a very different story. If claims of Kangana are to be believed then where is the proof?

Now after her many lies getting exposed from all the quarters, Kangana used the feminine card to her defense. She tried to play with the emotions of the country by calling it a male dominated society? But the fact of the matter is that a lie will remain a lie irrespective of your gender.

The truth is out in open for every one to see and judge for your self.  For all I can say is that, I smell something Fishy here!

5 Releases - 3 Languages - 4 Flops - 1 Blockbuster

5 movies are releasing today of which 4 are sure shot flops. Only HOLLYWOOD flick CAPTAIN AMERICA - CIVIL WAR is the saving grace. People like +Honey Singh who are at first a workaholic then an alcoholic are pretty unsure of the kind of life they want to spend, so the result is a crap like ZORAVAR. 
What is +VIKRAM BHATT up to these days is hard to believe, latest proof being - 1920-LONDON. Can't waist more words on this disaster. Then there are TRAFFIC and ONE NIGHT STAND of +Sunny Leone ! Star cast of TRAFFIC has good actors in DIVYA, JIMMY and BAjpayee but won't be more than an average grosser. ONE NIGHT STAND would be a sure shot washout flop. Anybody interested in watching good cinema, entertaining cinema just go for "CAPTAIN AMERICA - CIVIL WAR"!!
